What is a definition of an English language learner (ELL)?

An ELL is a student who comes from a non-English speaking background and whose difficulties in understanding, speaking, reading and writing English is sufficient to create academic difficulties, making it necessary to provide services.

  1. Hi! I just found your blog! I am currectly working on my ESOL Endorsement and am almost finished. I have been teaching for 27 years and I love working with the ESOL students in my classroom, so I thought I would get my endorsement in case I would like to move in that direction before retiring.
