Instructional Programs for ELLs

Hi everyone, 

For the next few Wednesdays I am blogging about the different programs offered to second language learners.

Today let's look at Sheltered Instruction Programs.

According to the Oregon Department of Education - Office of Learning - Equity Unit, Sheltered Instruction Programs are described as:

An  instructional approach used to make academic instruction in English understandable to ELL students.  In the sheltered classroom, teachers use physical activities, visual aids and the environment to teach vocabulary for concept development in mathematics, science, social studies, and other subjects.  Some examples of sheltered instruction model may include SIOP GLAD, SDAIE, Constructing Meaning.
